Propeller took me by surprise. Easy-going outdoor setting – Check! Boxy container coffee bar – Check! Modern-industrial interior – Check! Propeller just felt right and that was before we saw the menu.

This place rocks! It was a typical sunny Saturday so we asked to be seating in the outdoor area. I promptly ordered short mac as I am sure I suffer from a mild addiction. I have found over the years that you can’t hide with a short-mac. If you have sub-par quality beans you can taste it, if the beans are old you can taste, if you have a poor barista you can taste it. I was pleased to discover that Propeller suffered from none of this afflictions, the coffee on the day was delicious (so much so I could help but order another).

Whilst the coffee was being prepared we perused the menu (both breakfast and lunch)

Baked Eggs with Meatballs

and were not disappointed. The menu included everything from buttermilk hotcakes and  corn toasties to hot smoked salmon and black pudding. I settled on the Baked eggs with Meatballs. This dish was decadent and delicious. The tomato base was beautifully spiced and worked in perfect concert with the lamb meatballs. The eggs were still soft and gooey and when cut the yolk oozed out and gave a fantastic creaminess and mouthfeel.

Breakfast was chalked up as a win.

We returned a few weeks later to try their lunch menu.

We sat inside this time and were able to admire the efficient flow of orders to and from the kitchen. We settled on a spread of Black Pudding, Puy Lentils and Almond Sauce, Jerusalem Artichoke and Flatbread.

Each dish was impeccably presented and full of flavour! I am yet to visit for dinner but it is high on my list!

If you are in Fremantle and are interested in venturing outside the city centre, North Fremantle is a must visit.

Propeller is worth it!!
